Trenton Harris - Week 2 - Study Abroad

Week 2 is complete! Highlight of the week: Visiting Cinque Terre! My roommates and I visited Vernazza, one of the five towns of Cinque Terre, and it was beautiful! The trip started with an early train ride from Rome. This was the first time being on a train from what I can remember. It was a smooth ride, close to 4 hours. The train ride was very neat, seeing more of the countryside of Italy.
Once the train arrived, we grabbed our backpacks and headed to town. The town itself is very small, it has one street that leads to the water with many colorful buildings lined up along it. Of course, before doing anything else, we grabbed some gelato after seeing a shop. After grabbing some gelato, we walked down towards the water. I have seen pictures, but after seeing this place in person, it was truly the most beautiful place I have ever been. We grabbed some pizza after admiring the beauty of this small town and headed to the hotel. We decided we wanted an adventure, so we walked to the hotel. This was no normal walk however, our hotel was on a giant mountain! We were able to arrive after about an hour and forty five minutes of hiking up 1500 feet of elevation! This was very exhausting, but also very rewarding. The views were stunning! The mountains, along with the coast and the pretty town make this place so wonderful. Our hotel had a wonderful view of the mountains. We were really living luxuriously! I tried not to take the place for granted and enjoyed every moment there. We caught a bus back to town after finding out there is a bus and swam on the coast. The water was extremely refreshing! It was crystal clear and decently calm too. We swam for a couple of hours before finally grabbing dinner and heading back up to the hotel. Once we arrived to the hotel, we sat outside and soaked in the views for a couple of hours before calling it an early night! For the little time we had, I really enjoyed it. Another great thing about the hotel was there was a cafe located directly above it. Breakfast was wonderful from the cafe and got us fueled up for the second day. We grabbed breakfast before heading back to town to grab lunch and soak in our last few hours in Vernazza! This was truly the highlight of my trip so far, and the most beautiful town I have ever visited! For the little time we spent in Vernazza, I would say we made the most of it! Here are some pictures from this wonderful weekend trip:
